biography

Susanna Pantas is an emerging North Carolina artist who paints primarily in the realist manner, although she frequently incorporates surrealist elements and occasionally employs mixed media techniques to her work.

Having an artist as her father, a paternal grandmother who was an art teacher, a maternal grandmother who was a concert harpist, and a grandfather on the board of directors at Pratt Institute of Design in NYC, Susanna has been immersed in the arts her entire life.  Many of her childhood memories are of spending time in her father’s studio with a set of colored pencils and paint!  In high school, she was awarded two prestigious Scholastic Gold Key Awards for excellence in the visual arts.

She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Art in Studio Art from The University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she was awarded the Outstanding Art Student Award & Grant, chosen by the University faculty and given by the Wilmington Arts Council.   Fascinated by human culture, animals, and nature, Susanna also completed minors in French and Anthropology.  Studying French and Art History at the University of Paris (la Sorbonne) in France was a transformative period in Susanna’s life, after which she switched her major from Anthropology to Studio Art, a decision for which she is forever grateful to have made.
